Mobile phone usage has brought with it disturbances in social, medical, and technical aspects like lessened social interactions, abnormal brain development, and hacking incidences, respectively. I strongly believe that the negative aspects of mobile phone usage are greater than the positive ones.
The disadvantages of using cell phones are evident in our daily lives. Firstly, social interactions in the form of gatherings or outdoor games have decreased significantly as chatting with a distant friend on a mobile device consumes all our time. One study points out that youngsters spend more time on social media websites such as Facebook on their smartphones than on personal one-on-one interaction. Secondly, the overuse of medical devices may also result in serious medical ailments. Scientists, for instance, have already found clues and warned that early exposure (which is not early) to radiation coming from mobile devices may cause abnormalities in the growing brains of children or may even cause cancer. Lastly, even though mobile banking is one of the facilities the device has provided, it also invited numerous hacking incidents. Only last year, in Nepal, more than 500 cases of mobile banking errors due to hacking were reported.
Owing to the problems stated above, I am of the opinion that mobile phones do more harm than good. Even though mobile phones have eased connecting with friends and family around the globe, the world was absolutely fine when these devices were not invented. For instance, I grew up in the 1990s, when mobile phones were not popular. I went to school, played with my friends on the field, and spent time with my family, and I grew up perfectly fine without any problems. I was never disturbed by unnecessary calls or messages, and I never worried about looking good in pictures that were to be posted on social media sites. Hence, the phone we carry 24 hours a day is actually a burden rather than a useful accessory.
