Yang’s illustration have helped me to understand that my ethnicity depends on my ancestor’s backgrounds. He helps me know that my ancestor plays a significant role in determining which ethnicity I am associated with. It, therefore, means that if my ancestors are Americans, then my ethnicity is America. The other illustration that helps me understand about ethnicity is that I now understand that my religion, language and beliefs also define my ethnicity. Ethnicity, therefore, comprises of the cultural and the biological features.

Philip Q. Yang explained that ethnicity is the act of associating yourself to an ethnic group. According to him, the ethnicity of a person is determined by both the biological and the cultural features. He emphasized that ethnicity is defined in terms of religion, language, beliefs or economic stands. He also explained that biologically, the ethnicity of a person is determined by their ancestors. It, therefore, means that if my ancestors came from Africa, then my ethnicity is African.
