Scholarship Personal Essay Instructions: Submit a typed personal essay (no more than 1000 words) explaining career goals, progress toward completing the degree,
participation in College and/or University activities, notable achievements, and how the scholarship will help meet career goals.
Information about student:
Progress toward completing the degree: Currently a senior at Florida International University; graduating in May 2018. Studying Bsc Dietetics and Nutrition (Didactic
Program in Dietetics). Currently taking Medical Nutrition Therapy, Advanced Nutrition, Dietetic Management of Nutrition Programs, Dietetics in Community Health.
Career goals: Finish Didactic Program in Dietetics at Florida International University. Continue studies on graduate level; applying for Master’s program in Dietetics
and Nutrition at Florida International University and Florida State University. If I attend FIU for graduate degree, after completion, I’m planning on applying for the
mandatory internship at FIU in order to become a Registered Dietitian. Once a registered dietitian, goal is to find a job as a clinical dietitian at a hospital
(interest in treatment of patients with life threatening diseases like cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes).
Participation in College/ University activities: active member of the Student Dietetic Association (volunteering in on-campus and out of campus events regarding the
promotion of healthy lifestyle of students and other individuals in the Miami-Dade community). Some examples: Publix grocery tours, cooking demos, bake sales.
Notable achievements:
GPA of 4.0 in Associate in Arts in Medical Sciences at Hillsborough Community College.
Dean’s List at Hillsborough Community College.
Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges Award for high academic achievement at Hillsborough Community College.
Transferred Academic Achievement Scholarship offered at Florida International University for the Bsc in Dietetics and Nutrition.
Florida International University Dean’s List until now.
Current GPA at FIU: 3.83
How scholarship will meet career goals: use the money to cover the costs of my GRE tutoring classes and the examination cost itself. Use money to apply for schools
through DICAS (system for applying to dietetic internship programs).
