Moses was by far an empirical man of God. He played many roles of what’s to be considered a great servant leader. Moses was my choice of this great title because of his great endurance while leading he implemented law for his followers to benefit from.
Van de Beek states “Moses traveled with Israel to the Promise Land for 40 years. He was called to liberate the people from the house of slavery to bring them into the Promise Land. He endured Pharaoh’s wrath. He suffered hunger and thirst for his people. He had to deal with enemies and, worst of all, with his own people’s conflicts when they grumbled against the Lord and was disobedient” (Van de Beek, A. 2012 p. 2) Moses appeared to be that of a leader that developed with his people. It seems he felt it important to develop relationships with them while instructing them to what he thought would be successful. Northouse states that “Many leaders also exhibit determination. Determination is the desire to get the job done and includes characteristics such as initiatives, persistence, dominance and drive. People with determination are willing to assert themselves, are proactive, and have the capacity to preserve in the face of obstacles. Being determined includes showing dominance at times and in situations where followers need to be directed. (Northouse 2016, p. 24). Although Moses was a leader that endured the same obstacles as his followers he had to step in and encourage them in their travels. Exodus 14:13 states “And Moses said unto his people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more forever” (Holy Bible) Blanchard, Hendry and Hodges state” Leading people through change that will last is difficult. Leaders need to give people a passionate sense of purpose, a compelling vision of the future, and constant reinforcement that the effort will be worthwhile.
