The Writing Rubric below describes the way all written assignments will be grades
To earn an A, on the submitted assignment:
• Thoroughly addresses all aspects of the assignment – topic sentences are clear and all supporting sentences are clearly and logically linked to each other and the topic sentence
Richly supports essay with relevant facts, examples, and details (at least 2 per
• paragraph) from the assigned reading
Is a well-developed essay, consistently demonstrating a logical and clear plan of organization
• Grammar is correct throughout the submission
• Includes a strong introduction, transitions between paragraphs are smooth and strong conclusion
• No factual errors
To earn a B, on the submitted assignment:
• Addresses all aspects of the assignment – topic sentences are clear, most supporting sentences are clearly and logically linked to each other and the topic sentence
• Supports essay with relevant facts, examples, and details
• Is a well-developed essay, demonstrating a logical and clear plan of organization
• Grammar is correct for most of the submission
• Includes a good introduction and conclusion; transitions between paragraphs are evident is some of the submission
• Few factual errors
To earn a C, on the submitted assignment:
• Addresses most aspects of the assignment – topic sentences need clarification, supporting sentences are not consistently linked to each other and/or the topic sentence
• Incorporates limited or no relevant facts
• Is a satisfactorily developed essay, demonstrating a general plan of organization
• Issues with grammar found in all parts of the submission

To earn a D, on the submitted assignment:
• Attempts to address some aspects of the assignment
• Presents few facts, examples, and details; simply restates material with little analysis
• Is a poorly organized essay, lacking focus, with severe grammar issues
• Shows limited understanding of the material
• Presents many factual errors throughout the essay
• Has vague or missing introduction and/or conclusion
To earn an F, on the submitted assignment:
• Fails to address the assignment
• Organization is absent making the essay unreadable, grammar issues throughout the submission
• Shows no understanding of the material
• No introduction and/or conclusion
