This is the first in a series of assignments with the final рroduсt a рresentation which can be a paper or a visual presentation with audio (similar to a PowerPoint),
or a video.
Briefly answer the following questions and upload the answers to this assignment.
1.Which topic do you plan to present on?
2.If you are selecting Analysis and Argument or Comparison as your method, what are the names of the literary works you will be analyzing?
3.What form will the presentation be: a paper, a visual presentation with audio (like PowerPoint, with audio), or a video (in which you present/talk to the class)?
4.What are your initial views of the assignment?
5.What problems do you anticipate while working on this project?
Suggestions for Presentation:
For this project, you have the option to present on a wide range of topics. The presentation must match the theme of the conference, The Art of Empathy, which is also
the theme of our course. I have offered a few suggestions below.
The proposals must be approved before the next in the series of assignments is completed. Any future changes to the topic will need my approval before the presentation
can be made public.
•Analysis and Argument
?an analysis of a prose narrative (from our text), poem (from our text), or episode of Scrubs or Grey’s Anatomy that we have not discussed in the course using the
methods from this class that presents an argument for the interpretation of the work.
?1 primary source (literary work), secondary sources optional
•Comparison
?a comparison between two or more works (from our text) that argues for an overall theme, argument, or significance or
?a comparison between a work we have read or have not read (from our text) and your personal experience with the topic as a professional.
?2 or more primary sources (literary works or 1 literary work and your personal experience), no secondary sources
•Subject Review
?an argument which first summarizes stance/positions from multiple sources on a particular subject that relates to our theme (The Art of Empathy) and then presents a
claim about the subject
?example subjects: empathy in a single work, narrative medicine in a single work, healthcare reform in a single work, palliative care in a single work . . . (These are
broad subjects which would not be suited for the brief presentation. Your proposal should state how you will narrow the topic, example: empathy within the emergency
room setting.)
?at least 2 sources

•paper: 5 pages double spaced
•video and audio: 5 minutes
