Order Description

A draft needed before Dec 20th.

Structure
– Title page includes title of Dissertation, image, module code (TEX6002) and either your student number or your name.
– Contents list (including page numbers)
– Introduction
– Individual chapters (usually 3 or 4 depending on your subject and structure). It usually helps if these are named but they can be titled chapter 1, chapter 2 etc)
(again your choice).
– Conclusion – this is important and needs to be more than a couple of paragraphs as it consolidates the outcome of your research.
– Image list – images within the body of the text are labelled fig. 1, fig 2 etc. and named (but not given the full reference). The image list provides the full
reference for the attribution of the image. It would be fig 1, named, page … and then reference. Some choose to add a small thumbnail of the image but this is optional
(your choice again!)
– Annotated Bibliography (very important). The annotations can be brief (3/ 4/5 lines) to provide a snapshot of relevance. You do not include every book you’ve read –
only those relevant to the topic. These are your secondary research sources.
– Appendix (numbered) – a record of each primary research activity. E.g. Appendix 1 – title, date, record. Appendix 2 – title, date, record etc.

Aim

The aim of the module is to engage in critical thinking, research skills, and illustrated written communication extending personal art/ design scholarship.

Context

This module provides an opportunity to devise, research and study in-depth a self-directed art/design/material culture question of relevance to your textile design
degree resulting in an illustrated extended written outcome.

Brief

The final year of the BA (Hons) Textiles Design programme is focused on the development of your self-directed interests in relation to your Textile Design degree. For
this module you will need to identify, develop and research a concept within the field of art, design and material culture systematically and in depth resulting in an
illustrated dissertation of between 5,500 and 6,000 words. Whilst it is not a specific requirement of the module, you are encouraged to use this opportunity to
reinforce holistic practice through the selection of a topic that has relevance for your final practice.

Refer to the learning outcomes as a guide for aspects you need to consider within this study, for example, engaging in critical debate with primary and secondary
sources. Ensure academic conventions are observed. All references (including visuals) must be acknowledged and accurately cited. Use the Harvard Referencing System.
