Can Microorganisms make art?

Microorganisms are beautiful whether you are looking at them under the microscope or growing in colonies. When grown on an agar plate they make colonies with different shapes, textures and even colors. They do this because organisms like to live in communities creating a group architecture that allows them to thrive. Sometimes this architecture results in smooth shiny colonies and sometimes fuzzy branching colonies. Some microorganism’s colonies have colors because the cells may produce a substance internally or externally that creates the color, think of bread mold! Sometime, the cells may react with something you put in an agar plate that produces color.
