For your first blog post, identify any one element oftension in the two covers of “The Mercy Seat” AND the two covers of “Hurt.”
Use the handout to take notes and to read the lyrics as you listen to “The Mercy Seat.” Consider doing some research into how
each singer approaches the same song. Some things to listen to are the differences between the two singing voices, the styles,
the music tempo, the instruments used, and the repetitions of key phrases.

To start identifying tensions, contrast the two songs with each other. Later, I encourage you to listen to all four songs again and
then listen to the tensions within one song (instead of contrasting one with the other).
