¬ Aim to turn in the Final Essay that Final Assessment Day (October 20), just to avoid any last-minute problems.

 

¬ The last paper—the Final Essay—is to be turned in through our Week Eight submission link under the Final Assessment Week BioSig Module NINE: this Final Essay will be
at least THREE full or more pages long (ignore instructions that say minimum of 4-5 pages if you see them somewhere in the CANVAS echo-chamber); paper in MLA style,
double-spaced, font size 12, in any one of the following fonts: Helvetica, Arial, or Times New Roman.

¬ ***NO WPS, PAGES, or TXT FILES please; only Word readable doc, docx–or PDF files–are acceptable for this assignment: see your “Save As” function (in Apple, EXPORT
function) and its drop-down menus for alternatives to PAGES when saving your paper. Note: there are some Google and Amazon document formats that are not opening, so do
convert the files to a format as indicated before submission.

¬ If you do not use up-to-date MLA style for paper format and documentation, I will deduct several letter grades—so look it up! 8th Edition MLA format is especially
needed in the Works Cited page. Check the MLA paper writing/format links available in this course in earlier modules. There are exceptions to full MLA documentation
for our Final Essay—only our Final Essay: not other assignments—that are described below.

¬ If you do not document your sources, you’ll lose even more points! Losing points for MLA style/format does not authorize plagiarism or ignoring documentation
conventions—which can result in a failing grade fast! For this Final Essay assignment only, there ARE some things you can document more lightly—but please read
carefully the next two paragraphs, and email me with any questions:

 

¬ You need to credit references made to experts or sources outside our textbooks using MLA-style parenthetical citations with a Works Cited page. You do not need to
document information, paraphrases, or quotes beyond putting down the page numbers: So: page numbers yes, but Works Cited entries are not needed for stuff from our
textbooks or your own Explorations in the Discussion Board.

¬ What to write about: Write three or more pages (not counting a possible Works Cited page) on what you learned taking this course from the assigned or recommended
readings from every week [Not EVERY READING, but FROM EVERY WEEK] of our course, quoting from them as evidence as you discuss your learning!

¬ There is a method to be used when selecting which works you will quote and write about from our assigned reading this semester, so read on!

¬ Any aspect of learning counts, but you must explain as well important things that you learned every week from what the readings were presenting to the reader:
emphasize the works we read and traveled through this semester!!

¬ Method for selecting works to write about: first select one work from each of the first seven weeks, and then pick one more work of your choosing (Not an Egyptian
Love Poem), for a total of eight works to comment on (please exclude introductions from this count).

¬ So just one classic reading from each (very important) of the first seven weeks, then one more (not an Egyptian Love Poem) classic work.

¬ Support your observations with a QUOTE from EACH work for each weekly period—while also using paraphrases if you’d like, of course, for additional comments you may
want to make as you discuss the work. Do document page numbers in our textbooks as you go along to direct me to the original pages for summaries, paraphrases, or
quotes you use. Make your quotes substantial—at least something close to a sentence from the work you are discussing.

¬ AVOID using as weekly quote sources the text introductions—or, if quoting introductions for context (only, please), at least, be sure to THEN back up your claims
with QUOTATIONS FROM THE MASTERPIECES THEMSELVES—not the introductions, for each week’s discussion in this paper. One of the goals of this assignment is to show me you
did indeed read the works assigned—not just commentaries–so the supporting quotes are essential. Reading from THE FIRST SEVEN WEEKS must be used in your discussions
for this paper, as noted.—Don Quixote would be appreciated, if time allows, from Week Eight.

¬ You may use as a touchstone four of your Explorations—but don’t just copy paste them into this paper: develop an idea in them in some way, if you use them. Note that
the discussions in this Final Essay are NOT Explorations—you are not tying together the different weeks under a single claim, but reflecting on what you now appreciate
as having learned from our readings. So the key quotation should be new for half of this essay—email me if you have a question about this!
