For long periods of history and prehistory we rely on inanimate material objects to
provide the majority of information about a cultu’e, often without the support of literary
texts- Choose 3 objects, at least one from a cultu’e that lacked a written language or
whose language has yet to be deciphered- Discuss as fully as possible what you
objects teach us about the societies that produced them and the ages in which they
were produced- A key question to discuss: as a group, what do these 3 objects teach
you about the process of understanding the past? You three objects should be
chosen from 3 different civilizations and 3 different categories (for example, bu’ial
goods, household objects, public art, votive offering, etc-)- Please refrain from using
architectu’al structures
