A hotel manager wants to provide her guests with equipment in their rooms that will enhance their experience of staying at the hotel, but without increasing the overheads too much. She is willing to pay more, provided she is convinced that guests will appreciate the result. In order to select an appropriate Blu-ray player, 32 models are tested by asking some of the regular guests to rate them on a satisfaction scale of 0-100 considering factors such as ease of use, sound quality, etc. In general, it is expected that more expensive Blu-ray players will be rated more highly. The following results are recorded:
Price 25 73 79 77 77 34 50 34 44 25 Satisfaction 9 76 77 75 82 34 60 25 45 8 Price 59 79 58 60 26 69 51 66 43 38 Satisfaction 76 75 77 82 18 84 65 79 52 34 Price 37 62 60 50 28 43 34 63 61 68 Satisfaction 36 84 75 25 21 50 25 77 83 78
(i) Create a permanent SAS dataset (on your p-drive or elsewhere) containing this data, and print out the result.
[10 marks]
(ii) Find the linear regression equation that predicts satisfaction for a given price, and interpret this in view of the expectation that more expensive players will produce higher scores.
[15 marks]
(iii) Construct a scatter diagram of the data together with the regression line. Comment in detail on the results.
[20 marks]
