Competency: 302-6: Describe the professional organizations and disciplines central to
Health Informatics

Although Health Informatics is a relatively new field, it has already been subdivided
into several distinct disciplines, and a number of professional organizations have
emerged to serve individuals within those disciplines- In this competency you will
read about the evolution of Health Informatics and take a look at some of the
disciplines and professional organizations that exist within the field-

 

 

Look at the list of Health Informatics related disciplines in Box 1-8 on page 13 of
Nelson and Staggers- Choose a discipline that appeals to you from that list- Write a
400 to 500 word essay, including the following information:

Why does the discipline appeal to you?

Why?

Within this discipline, what opportunities are there for continuing education and
