As aged care providers work towards improving their quality of care for their clients, consideration has been given to the use of
public reporting of quality data as a mechanism to stimulate quality improvement and promote public accountability for and
transparency in service quality. It has also been reported that public reporting encourages the consumer to select health care
providers or health plans that offer comparatively better quality-of-ca re.

Already we are seeing this happening in other markets. Customer reviews in TripAdvisor enable hotel owners to find out how
they are rated by their customers and what areas of improvement they can make to improve their service to the customers so
that they can get higher ratings, and more customers. In this context, public reporting leads to improvement and better choices.
The study will carry out a literature review to find out ifthis can be applicable for the aged care sector, i.e. public reporting
drives improvement and better choices. In addition, it will look at what other countries are doing, and answer the following
questions:

How people with eldercare needs and their family carers find and access information about the quality of services;

How quality information is used in decision-making;

What type of quality information is most useful;
