A “close reading” is the close examination of a text in order to discern its meaning. For this assignment, you will pick a book, story, or film we covered in class, accumulate evidence that supports a reading of the text, and develop an argument about that passage.

Instructions

Create an argument, and gather evidence from the text that supports your argument.
Do not let the quotes from the text speak for themselves. A proper argument uses evidence from the text to support it, but it is through the analysis of that evidence that your argument shines through. In other words: “All interpretations require evidence; all evidence requires analysis.”
