Choose one developmental topic examined within this course that you find of interest (racial identity development within black youth, specifically black males), read about it in greater depth, and apply it to a student or a group of students in a school setting as he/she/they confront(s) the demands of the classroom. What may be some implications, questions, or conclusions that follow? How can academic and behavioral expectations of the classroom be in synchrony with the child’s developmental status? Describe how the classroom may mesh well with the child’s/children’s developmental status. What modifications in the classroom or instructional plan could be made to create developmentally appropriate instruction? Based on observations, readings, and experiences, what can be done to facilitate the student(s) successful development? How may one’s teaching style change as a result of completing this assignment? How can one apply what has been learned (new perspective, challenges to one’s beliefs, philosophy about teaching, etc.) to one’s everyday teaching and/or classroom strategies?
