Help me study for my Social Science class. I’m stuck and don’t understand.
Part One
Consider sampling in statistics. Why do we take samples? Why do we want representative samples (and what does it mean)?
Part Two
Now, think about what you might work on for the final project (remember, there is a list of subreddits). Are there limitations to the data source and your sample (based on what you know and have seen so far)? Why? How might you design this differently to get a more representative sample?
Further – in your opinion is there still value to be gained even if a sample is not representative? [This will be discussed more later, but I want you to consider diverse data and what it has to offer us]
Reminder
This discussion is considered part of your grade [5 points per discussion]: The initial post (3 points) is due on Thursday, and a response to at least one classmates’ post (2 points) by the end of Friday.
****my previous discussion and it relates to this discussion’s part 2 for my final project topic: One of the topics that I would like to research is human rights, particularly on minority groups’ rights. Despite such rights being provided by law, people continue to be discriminated against on basis such as; race, gender, age, religious beliefs, political choices, sexual orientation, and so on. Through research, I would like to know if people are aware of the rights and privileges provided by law as well as some of the ways they feel the government is supposed to protect them. This way, I could provide a report to the concerned agencies, through which they can offer the needed help and response.
