Purpose of Assignment: The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate the similarities and differences between two popular forms of research design. Although both designs are similar in their design, outcomes and generalizability differ. The purpose of this project is to demonstrate to students the pros and cons of each model.

Instructions:
You are an intake coordinator for the local college. Your boss is asking you to explain why some students with a lower SAT score do well in college and while some with a higher SAT score do not. Your boss is under the impression that a high score on the SAT will result in a student doing well in college. Complete a brief report (APA formatted) on how correlation and causation are similar and how they are different.

Content: Discuss why experimental design is preferred when attempting to make predictions for a population. Be sure to address the following in your paper.

• Include at least two professional journal articles relevant to the subject.
• Discuss the pros and cons of correlational and experimental designs.
• Summarize why the experimental (causation) model is considered the “gold standard” and is preferred over the correlational model when it involves making population predictions.
