2. The issue of trauma is emphasized in this module. Multiple (and somewhat contradictory) perspectives have been raised. Please answer the following question:

a. Dr. Cacciatore argues against the use of the term “Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder,” but *for* the use of the term, “Post-Traumatic Stress.” Do you agree or disagree with this perspective? Explain why.

b. Dr. Cacciatore mentions that her traumatized clients have previously been diagnosed with other mental disorders. Examine the DSM-5 criteria for PTSD; what other diagnoses would you expect traumatized clients to be diagnosed with if the role of trauma is not carefully scrutinized?

c. In one of the assigned articles, the client was given a very pessimistic prognosis very early in her adult life. At this point, you’ve been exposed to the huge variation in outcomes for those diagnosed with mental disorders in general, and trauma-related disorders specifically. What do you think clients should be told (and not told) early on in their mental health diagnosis and treatment experience?

d. Without question, the acknowledgement of the importance of trauma is one of the most important developments in mental health in the last 25 years. At the same time, it is argued that “concept creep” is taking place. Do you agree that this is happening? Why or why not? What are the ramifications of this? What are the positive and negative ramifications of the widening of the trauma-related net?
