I think that is a decision for each teacher to decide, different concepts might require different amounts of homework. I think that homework used the correct way has no impact on a students passion for school. It is when it is abused or teachers give meaningless assignment that a students passion for school can be affected. I have come to realize that more and more students do not do their homework, or copy from social media things like snapchat. So I only use homework as a small evaluation tool. To judge comprehension and the majority of my class is based on labs, lab write ups and other forms of formal and informal assessment.
