Answer the first two question

1.Why does Hume think that rationality alone is unable to give us knowledge? Why does he think empiricism alone is unable to give us knowledge? What is Hume’s “solution” to this problem?

2.Why does Hume say that our expectation that the future will be like the past is unjustified and that the justification we offer involves circular reasoning?

3.What does John Locke mean when he says that the mind is like a blank tablet (tabula rasa) of white paper? What is he arguing against?

What John Locke means by, “The mind is like a blank tablet (tabula rasa) of white paper” is that people came into the world with no knowledge. John Locke’s argument was against the Rationalists who believed that there are ideas that we all share as humans. Another way of saying this is “Universal Consent”. Locke’s response to that was, “there are no ideas that all human beings are aware of “. However, there was a way how people’s minds could be filled and that way was through experience. Locke believed that only experience could fill our minds and keep us away from having a blank one.
