Descriptive statistics are typically distinguished from inferential statistics. It simply describes a sample. With inferential statistics, you are trying to infer something about a population by measuring a sample taken from the population.One should always report appropriate descriptive statistics in the results section of a search report or dissertation that uses quantitative methods
