Lilla Cabot Perry was a prominent member of the American Impressionist movement who created several landscape works as well as painting a number of other important portraits. Indeed, Lilla Cabot Perry had a significant impact on the spread of the French Impressionist style while Perry’s works, especially her self-portraits represent a complex blend of different aesthetics in addition to the projection of a feminist perspective on the world (Davies, Denny and Hofrichter 872). In addition, Perry’s artistic legacy is significant because she had a direct influence on the feminist movement while her style was very vibrant and the subjects that she used represented her daily life. These traits of Perry’s works reflected her culture and personality while her devotion to developing as an artist also saw her help other artists who wanted to produce similar works during this period in history.

James Abbott McNeill Whistler was one of the most prominent American artists and he was mainly active during the Gilded Age. However, instead of living in the United States, Whistler moved to Britain, while he still retained significant influence across the Atlantic (Davies, Denny and Hofrichter 885). Indeed, one of Whistler’s most iconic works is his Butterfly Monogram that was stylized with a stinging tail, which represented the various parts of his personality, including fragility as well as strength. In addition, Whistler’s artworks have inspired people throughout the end of the 19th century, while his use of nature as a prominent subject in his works conforms to the genre of Impressionism. Furthermore, it should be noted that Whistler’s legacy can be illustrated in several paintings as well as in the work of other modern artists.

Vincent Van Gogh was one of the most influential post-impressionist artists as well as one of the most important figures in the history of Western art. This is especially pertinent because Vincent van Gogh’s work demonstrates the use of dramatic and bold colors in combination with unique and expressive techniques (Davies, Denny and Hofrichter 912). Indeed, it could be argued that as a result of these techniques and his style, Vincent van Gogh’s works are some of the most influential and striking of all art history, especially Night Cafe. However, Vincent van Gogh’s works were not considered special during his lifetime, but since his death, he has had a significant influence on the development and use of creativity, as well as imagination in the artistic world.

Victor Horta was a Belgian architect and designer, thought of as one of the most important contributors to the development of the art nouveau style. Indeed, Horta became one of the most accomplished architects in the world as a result of his use of decorations and inventiveness to create this new architectural style. Horta’s design of the Tassel House is one of the best examples of his work because he combines unique design features with the use of artistic patterns within the construction (Davies, Denny and Hofrichter 928) making him one of the most influential designers of the period.

Another one of the most significant artists who emerged during the 20th century was Pablo Picasso. Indeed, Picasso has become widely known for his use of a variety of styles and techniques to create sculpture as well as paintings including Les Demoiselles d’Avignon. In addition, it should be noted that Picasso was significant to the development of art history because he contributed to the emergence of the Cubist movement while he also used several other radical elements to demonstrate his talent (Davies, Denny and Hofrichter 950). Furthermore, Picasso’s more radical use of artistic techniques as well as challenging subjects saw him achieve significant popularity around the world. Finally, it is important to note that Picasso was able to accumulate a significant fortune as a result of producing some of the most prominent works of art in human history.

Adolf Loos contributed to the development of several architectural styles, as well as contributing to the emergence of modernism in the fields of both architecture and design. Indeed Loos made a number of contributions to the development of the modernist architectural style while he also influenced architects around the world through his groundbreaking designs. Furthermore, Loos should be considered as one of the most significant architects of the last century as he carefully selected the designs and materials that are used in his work. This is especially obvious in the design of Steiner House in Vienna, which demonstrates his extravagant interpretation of the art nouveau movement (Davies, Denny and Hofrichter 976).

Hannah Hoch also made significant contributions to the artistic world throughout the 20th century, while she is known as one of the most important contributors in the development of the technique of photomontage. This development was important because it enabled Hoch to critique the role of women in society during the 1920s which was groundbreaking for the time period. In addition, Hoch’s work was based on the projection of how women could be liberated during the emergence of the feminist movement (Davies, Denny and Hofrichter 988) as shown in Cut with the Kitchen Knife Dada Through the Last Weimar Beer Belly Cultural Epoch of Germany. Furthermore, Hoch’s work is easily relatable throughout the various generations given her use of familiar themes. Lastly, it is essential to remember that Hoch’s works also became popular as a result of the development of several technologies, including photography and the emergence of the mass media.

Piet Mondrian should be considered as one of the most significant artists of the 20th century as a direct result of his various contributions to the development of abstract art. Indeed, Mondrian contributed in several ways to the modernist movement while he also used abstract styles to create some of the most important works of the last century, especially his Composition with Red, Blue and Yellow which has become one of the most iconic images of this particular period.

Jackson Pollock was one of the most well-known figures in the development of the abstract expressionist style, while he is well known for his unique method of painting using drips and splashes of paint to form the image on canvas. Indeed, Pollock’s unique artistic style represented his personality which was very full volatile, while he also sought to incorporate Cubism, Impressionism and surrealism into his paintings (Davies, Denny and Hofrichter 1038). The creation of such works as Autumn Rhythm challenged the conventions of the period while his works became especially popular as they represented the evolution of a variety of different styles and production techniques.

Roy Lichtenstein was a significant contributor to the New Art movement as well as being famous for the creation of pop art as a genre. Indeed, Lichtenstein’s works became popular as a result of challenging the commercial and abstract styles which became popular during the previous century (Davies, Denny and Hofrichter 1049). Furthermore, Lichtenstein’s works such as Drowning Girl represent a change to the mainstream of the modernist style which has also influenced popular culture in a number of ways over the subsequent decades.
