FAILURE. Is there a word in the English language that conjures up more fear in hearts and minds of students? As it turns out, failure is required in order to achieve significant success (Neck, et. al., p 113). Part of the problem with ‘failure’ is how we view it…as a defining moment in our lives or as an event to be ashamed of instead of using it as a process to learn from. This week we will explore the “power of failure”.

To begin, view the two videos posted for this week (Famous Failures and The Power of Failure). Read Chapter 5.

Part I. Select one of the famous people mentioned in the video Famous Failures and answer the following questions about this person. You will need to seek out a reference to support your information.

1. What message did the ‘world’ tell them about their abilities?

2. How did they respond to their failure?

3. Before this assignment, did you even know about this failure?

4. How might the world be different if this person had given up and not made their contributions to society?

Part II. After watching the video The Power of Failure, identify a failure in your life and use it to answer the following questions.

1. Identify the failure.

2. How did you respond?

3. Using A New View of Failure: Some Primary Themes (Neck, et. al., pp 114-115), select three of the themes and discuss how you might have used them to redefine the failure and turn it into a learning experience.

Limit your response to 750-1000 words, double spaced, use Times New Roman, font size 12, and submit your assignment below. Link your reactions to the text citing the referenced page or use other references to support your points. Of course, papers should be organized, thorough, with proper sentence structure and grammar.
