We can work on ACE 612 Ball State University Sport Generalization Rationale Discussion – Assignment Help

I’m trying to study for my Sports Management course and I need some help to understand this question.

Assignment #11 (20 points)

Popular culture seems to be pushing the notion that in order to succeed at sports, kids need to specialize at a very early age. They are encouraged to make a decision on what sport they want to commit themselves to for the rest of their career. An athletic scholarship is often the goal of most parents and many want their son or daughter to do well enough to reach the professional ranks.

You are approached by a parent of a 7th grade girl who has been participating in club gymnastics since the age of 6. Mom (Ms. Altman) is a former gymnast and is a club coach. Her daughter Dara has recently shown an interest in volleyball and wants to join the track and field team and try the pole vault. She recently has hit a growth spurt and is now 5’6”. After years of success in club gymnastics, Ms. Altman sees a bright future in gymnastics with the possibility of a college scholarship. She is concerned that the introduction of new sport activities will take away from her daughter’s development as a gymnast and may put her at risk for an injury.

Question

You want to encourage the 7th grader (Dara) to participate in volleyball and track and field because she is an outstanding athlete. Using references develop a rationale for “sport generalization” for Ms. Altman (the parent). Make sure that you present both sides of the argument as Ms. Altman is a strong advocate of early specialization.
