The woman is in her later thirties and appears groggy and the man is very abrupt asking the staff to “move quickly and get her seen.” The triage nurse arrives and takes her into the office, but the man demands he go with her. He helps answer questions about what happened, but the woman says little. The man paces next to the nurse as she types.

1. Context: Is this behavior typical of someone seeking emergency medical attention, or is it unusual? Is the urgency expressed by the man and woman consistent with a medical emergency?
2. Stalking: Is there any indication that the man is stalking or controlling the woman? Does the woman appear to be afraid or hesitant to speak in front of the man?
3. Intuition: Is there anything in your intuition that suggests danger? Are there any gut feelings or red flags that you are picking up on?
4. History: Is there any history of violence or abuse involving the man or the woman? Have they been to the emergency room before for similar reasons?
5. Victimology: Is the woman the victim of violence or abuse, or is the man the victim of a medical emergency?
6. Threats and communications: Has the man made any threats or aggressive statements towards the staff? Has the woman made any statements that suggest she is in danger or being coerced?
7. Weapons: Are there any weapons present or have any threats been made involving weapons?
8. Substance abuse: Is there any indication of substance abuse by the man or woman? Could this be a factor in their behavior?
9. Mental health: Is there any indication of mental health issues that may be contributing to the situation? Has either the man or woman shown signs of distress or instability?
10. Capability: Does the man have a history of violence or aggression, or any other indication that he may be capable of carrying out a threat?
11. Pre-attack indicators: Are there any signs that suggest the man may be planning an attack? Are there any other behaviors that could indicate a potential danger to the staff?
