Abstract
An abstract is a brief, comprehensive summary of the contents of your paper. A well-prepared abstract can be the single most important paragraph. Do not indent an abstract. According to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th ed.): “An abstract is a brief, comprehensive summary of the contents of the article; it allows readers to survey the contents of an article quickly” (2010, p. 25). The Abstract should provide the purpose of your paper. It should not exceed 120 words. [See section 2.04 (APA, 2010, pp. 25-27)]

Set your margins 1 inch on all 4 sides. Use Times New Roman font, size 12.
Indent 7 spaces and begin writing your paper. Remember to repeat the title of your paper at the top of this page (your first page of text, page 2) as above. All of your pages need to be numbered beginning with your title page, which is page 1. The words �Running head� must appear as your header on the title page opposite your page number. Use the format �Running head:� and a short title (or a few words that describe your paper) in CAPITAL LETTERS (not more than 50 characters).
Add your running head and page numbers using the insert function in your MS Word program. DO NOT type them onto the page, or they will travel down the page with your text. Please note the words �Running head� are not included in the header for your second page. See your MS Word program for instructions on how to remove these words from page 2. Every page after page 1 should not have the words, �Running head.�
You may write on any topic of interest in the area of biopsychology. Your paper needs to include references to the topic you choose from our course textbook and at least four (4) peer-reviewed journals (i.e: The Journal of Neuroscience). You may also include information from government websites such as the National Institute of Health. Please note: writing well is critical.
Add a Title page, an Abstract, and a Reference page (the format in this document is your template). Please download and print a copy of the Guide for Writing in APA Style developed by the Department of Psychology for instruction on how to cite and reference using APA style. You will find the Guide in Course Home (.pdf in Doc Sharing). Use Times New Roman font (12 pt) and double spacing.
