Topic: Discourse Analysis of “Us vs Them” language in Media and Politics Academic Essay

want to devote the opening part of my thesis to discussing the definition of the term discourse, next, what makes discourse a discourse, next, its constituent part such as text, next, Beaugrande’s and Dressler’s seven standards of textuality required to constitute a meaningful text. Then, I would like to talk about features of both, written and spoken texts, the difference between the spoken and written texts. Next, I would like to talk about context and coext, types of contexts, as meaning seems to be an extremely context dependent property of text, types of contexts. Since i started talking about context, I also would like briefly comment on pragmatics, meaning of discourse in social context, variation of meaning.
Next, I would like to continue talking about linguistic devices employed to constitute discourse, such as speech act, implicature, turn-taking and so on, (feel free to add up other linguistic device necessary for constituting communicative act)
Next, I would like to move on with the definition of discourse analysis, in particular, who coined the term discourse analysis, what is the definition of discourse analysis, what linguistic devices are employed to analyze discourse, what is the role of pragmatics in the discourse analysis
The second part of my thesis must be devote practical side of discourse analysis, I would like my writer to come up at least with a couple of living examples of Us vs Them language use in media and politics ( and analyze it in details from linguistic perspectives.
