Assessment Item One (20%) Case Study Task Guidelines
Case: Barbeque Bonanza
Australian Char are seeking new markets for their most recent product, an easy-to-light barbeque fuel, Heat Beads Easy-Lite Briquettes. They have commissioned you to undertake a preliminary analysis of the socio-economic environments of two Latin American countries, Chile and Mexico.
You are required to provide Australian Char with a brief report containing:
(A) Four conclusions that would be significant to their decision regarding which country market to enter, (B) A timeline graph of the % Change in GDP from 2010 to 2020, and (C) Advantage and disadvantages of being an early entrant to a market ( First mover advantage and disadvantage).

Using the data from the table, write four paragraphs or 80-100 words each containing a conclusion which could be relevant to Australian Char’s plan to sell their briquettes into these countries. Use the same method you practised in your tutorial when you analysed data for the fictional County A and Country B.
Note: You do not need for this exercise to cite the sources of your data nor any information you paraphrase from your textbook. However, if you use direct quotations from your textbook or use any other sources to support your analysis of the data, you do need to use correct APA citation and referencing for these. (3 marks each = 12 marks)
Part (B) Graph. Using the EIU Database available through the QUT Library, find the percentage change in GDP for Chile and Mexico for the years 2010 to 2020. Export the data to Excel and construct a timeline graph. Remember to give your graph a title, label both axes and include the source of your data. Finally, copy your graph into the Word document below your 4 conclusions. (If you are a new user of EIU, there are instructions on Blackboard.) (3 marks)
Part (C) While Australian Char’s Heat Beat are a well-established product globally, you can see that there may be first-mover advantages in these two countries for their Easy-Lite product, given that it makes barbeques easy to light and prevents food tasting of accelerant. Australian Char may benefit from introducing their product ahead of competitors. However, being first into a market does have disadvantages as well – first-mover disadvantages.
List and explain briefly three (3) advantages and three (3) disadvantages which could arise for Australian Char if their new product is introduced to Chile and Mexico ahead of competitors.
