The aim of the essay is to give you the opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of the definition and debates surround environmental issues. In addition it gives
you the opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of the role, perspective and impact of different actors in the policy debate around these issues.
• Note the focus of the essay should be on policy and policy actors in the UK. It is recognised that global policy actors e.g. the United Nations, European Union may
influence UK policy and should be referred to accordingly.
• Remember environmental impact may be positive as well as negative.
• You should refer to relevant theory – ecological modernisation/techno centrism/biocentrism etc. to demonstrate understanding.
• Your discussion of the role/perspectives of different actors should go beyond description to critically evaluate their agenda and impact on policy.
• You are given references to help guide your reading, it is expected that you will read further around the subject and note these sources in your reference list.
