“The Norton Anthology of World Literature, Third Edition, Vol. Volume D”

From the book “The Norton Anthology of World Literature, Third Edition, Vol. Volume D”

1. One Response from Basho 616-628 or Swift 265-269 or 315-320

2. One Response from Moliere 141-197, or Menglong 497-517.

The prescribed format for each Response is as follows: You will write a response of at least 100 words to a word-for-word direct quote that you chose from the introduction to the chosen author; then, you will write a response of at least 150 words to a word-for-word quote from the actual reading written by the author. For example, the Introduction to Swift begins on page 265 and ends on page 269. You choose a passage from the Introduction to Swift that you find interesting or significant, type the passage word for word as a direct quote, and then skip a few lines and write your response (must be at least 100 words) explaining why you chose that passage to quote. Then you will choose a passage from the Swift essay that begins on page 315 and ends on page 320, type the passage word for word, and then write your response (must be at least 150 words) explaining why you chose that passage. The quoted passages DO NOT count in the minimum word count requirement. Your written responses must have substance to them; points will be deducted for weak, superficial responses; also they must be clearly written.
