Topic: Tale of two tsunamis

Order Description

The assignment is to write a two page essay that compares and contrasts the 2004 Sumatra and the 2011 Japan tsunamis. You should also use and cite information the the web. There should be three aspects of the essay.

1) Science: The what, when, where, why, and how of the two tsunami events themselves. Use specific information and terminology used in the module. For example wavelength, subduction, and plate names. How were they similar or different? What physical factors dictated the tsunami’s destructive power? etc.

2) Technology: How did technology play a role in the loss of life during the two events? Give at least three examples of specific technology that played a role is limiting loss of life. How were they similar or different?

3) Society: How did the two tsunami events impact the society’s of those impacted by the event? How were they similar or different? Discuss the human and economic loss? Why are they similar or different? What role did national wealth play in the economic and human loss? What do you think society should change as a result of your understanding of these two events?
