Strategic Learning Assignment 1
Overall, there are three separate, graded assignments on strategic learning. The purposes
these assignments are to help you improve the quality of your own learning and retention
of course content and to help you better understand how to guide others to learn
effectively.
The reading source for each of these assignments is the following book, on reserve in the
business library (top floor, end of the hall in BTC). (Note. There is not a copy of this book
at the main library, and many students will need this book this semester, so plan ahead.)
College Study Skills: Becoming a Strategic Learner by Dianna L. Van Blerkom,
Wadsworth Cengage Learning, 7th edition, 2012.
Here is your task for Strategic Learning Assignment 1:
Thoroughly scan the books contents, and identify some portion(s) of the book that you can
apply to improve your learning this semester. Read the selected section carefully. Then,
establish one or more goals for applying what you learned from the book to your studies in
this course this semester. Goals should be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and
time based.
Prepare a paper, approximately one page, typed and double-spaced, including the following
three elements:
1. State one or more goals for improving the quality of your studying and learning in
this course. The goal(s) should be very clear and specific.
2. Describe how the results of your efforts toward that goal will be measured. Again,
be specific.
3. Provide a precise description of the chapter, pages, etc. that you read from the
learning book and will apply toward your goal.
