Identify a topic from the Strategic HR module (such as the content and the process approaches to HRM, HCHRM, motivation, HRD or another topic). Link this topic to an actual organisation, using information from websites, company reports, case studies in academic and professional journals. Based on data from these primary and secondary sources, use the appropriate academic theories to analyse the aspect of Strategic HR you decided to focus on in the organisation of your choice. You should identify the main strengths and limitations of current practice, together with any recommendations for change.

Group report structure

Group Names and student numbers of your team members on the submission sheet.

1. Project title

 

2. Introduction (to both topic area and organisation)

Area of Strategic HR that the project will focus on and the organisation where the HR practice will be analysed.

3. Key theories

Key theories/ frameworks from the academic literature that were used to analyse HR practices within your field of reference. Compare and contrast different theoretical ideas and provide a critique of them. Ensure that you use academic materials such as journals and books to support your ideas.

4. Organisation

Give an overview of the industry and company that you have chosen, as well as HR practices related to your chosen HR topic. You may choose to compare two or three global locations or choose one site. You should identify the main strengths and limitations of current practice in the company, together with any recommendations for change and solutions.

5. Conclusion

Conclude about the strengths and limitations of current practice in the organisation that you have selected. Recommendations will focus on what you think they should do to improve the way that they approach this aspect of HR.

6. References

Information sources used (such as texts / journal articles / company websites and contacts). You need a clear bibliography with lots of references to support your report. Use Harvard referencing system.

Group Report – Assessment Criteria

 

Reports should be a maximum of 2000 words in length and will be assessed using the following criteria:

 

1. Structure, Style and Presentation (20%)

Coherence of the report and the extent to which it examines the topic in sufficient breadth and depth, whether its analysis and conclusions are supported by academic and organisation sources and that these are referenced using the Harvard style of Referencing.

 

2. Analysis and Critique (30%)

Understanding and applying relevant theories and concepts, with evidence of critical analysis of these.

 

3. Depth of Understanding of Issues related to the Question (30%)

The extent to which the report meets the key requirements of the brief: namely providing an analysis and critique of the HR topic chosen, identifying key issues and making well argued recommendations for improvement.

 

4. Quality of Research and Use of Sources (20%)

Use of relevant texts, journal articles and evidence of wider reading. Judicious and critical incorporation of organisational sources.
