Order Description
-Mother, Matilde, is 31. She has not worked since the birth of their youngest child and is now also responsible for taking care of Jerome’s mother, Aida, who is living with them. Matilde is the biological mother of Audrey, an 11 month old female. She is also stepmother to Jerome’s son, David, who lives with them during the school year.
-Grandmother, Aida is 80. Six months ago, she came to live with her son’s family, after having a fire in her own home. Jerome told her she could not live by herself any longer. She still helps Matilde some around the home, but Matilde and Jerome have agreed Aida cannot take care of the children alone. Aida has episodes where she seems to “space out”. During these episodes, she does not respond to questions and may not make eye contact with people. Often, during these, her face will even get distorted.
– Son, David, is 16. His mother sent him to live with Jerome and Matilde when he was 14, after mother remarried. He often has conflicts with Matilde and will yell at Aida and Audry. He does not want to go to school and spends most of his day either in his room or outside the home with friends.
– Daughter, Audry, is 11 months old. She is an outgoing child and hugs everyone. She seems to be very attached to her grandmother and wants to spend a lot of time with her. She cries when she cannot stay with her grandmother or when her brother yells at her. David makes fun of her because she cannot sit up yet by herself. He tells her she is ugly. She does have some unusual facial features.
HINTS ref your clients as you do your work for postings:
1) For Jerome – Consider what typical health issues would be for a Hispanic male in his 50’s. (We assume he is Hispanic based on his last name – Rivera.) Check Chapter 11 – 13.
2) For Matilde – Consider her age. Also, what major thing has happened in the last year that could affect her mood and health? Final HINT – Consider Audrey’s condition. What does that tell you about any problem Matilde might have? Check Chapter 10 & 11, and also pg 60.
3) For Audrey – Consider the developmental milestones she should be hitting at her age. It does not appear she is meeting these. What disorder could she be having that would cause her “unusual facial features”? If you check your textbook, you will find the full description of Audrey’s characteristics does NOT meet criteria for Down’s Syndrome. What else does your text discuss in Chapter 2 which could cause developmental delays, some behavior concerns, and unusual facial features?
4) For David – Consider his age group. What “at risk” behaviors could you expect to see in this teen? Would any of these behaviors be affecting his mood and attitude? Check Chapters 8 & 9.
5) For Aida – Consider her age group. Also, when you look at a diagnosis, make sure to consider all the info you have been given. You may want to go to Alzheimer’s because she is forgetting. However, she is having episodes where she appears to “space out”. During these episodes, her face will become distorted. Do these things go with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s typically? If not, what are your other options? Check Chapter 14 & 15.
GENERAL HINTS:
Make sure to consider your client’s age when you do your developmental assessments. Support your choice of stages with information. Make sure to address all required topics.
WHAT YOU ARE TO DO
What EACH group member (except the Group Leader) is to do:
Start by picking one of the the subject family to work on. Remember – it is up to group members to work together and make sure ALL members are addressed. You may need to have more than one person cover the same family member. HOWEVER, this can only happen AFTER all members have been selected. **Important** You cannot work together to do the required documentation on the same client. EACH group member MUST have their own documentation and it cannot be identical to any other group member’s work.
Then, you are to look at the application of information given in the text for the chapters which relate to the age of your client. For example, if you choose Aida, you will be working from information in Chapters 14 – 16. If you choose David, you will be working with info primarily from Chapters 8 & 9. Use this information to create your client documentation. Then, add to it with your outside reference information.
These are the topics which are required to be addressed on each of the family members. Make sure you address the required topics for the client you choose. In addition to the required topics, you may choose 2 other topics to address for your client. That give you a total of 6 topics to address.
