SAP-ERP Presentation

            An SAP-ERP presentation was done at the University of Houston-Downtown College of Business by Dr. Jeffrey Word, who happens to be the Vice President of product strategy SAP AG on October 13^th, 2011. Dr Word has learnt a lot concerning business and information technology through his various degree, masters and PhD courses he has gone through, and has also written books concerning the business world and the software used. Dr Jeffrey, through his presentation, gave a great impression of what to expect in the outside world of business as well as offering insightful information about SAP and ERP systems.

            SAP stands for Systems, Application and Products, and is used in data processing especially in the business sector for it is designed to incorporate all sectors of business in one package. ERP stands for Enterprise Resource Planning and is a business management software that allows organizations to use applications that have been integrated into systems to automate business functions.

            The video containing the presentation by Dr Jeffry Word relates to specific topics in the book for he illustrates why it is necessary to learn SAP and EPR and they are most crucial in running of many organisations in the world, from NASA to the American Army. The video touches on how SAP is used in making inventories for orders and also touches on micro-economics. I agree with what Dr Word is saying concerning the need of SAP and ERP systems for they help in running of businesses in organizations smoothly and in their growth. It is important to take much interest in SAP and ERP systems for they run the planet.

            MIS stands for Management Information Systems and it is a system that deals with the study of organizations, technology and people to help in analysis, control and coordination of information in an organization. A minor in MIS is of benefit to one’s career for it helps increase chances to work in many different industries, an above-average salary and opens doors to many types of jobs most being high-level jobs.  A minor in MIS would therefore be very beneficial to my career in the business world.
