This paper presents my personal reflection and perception of the outcome of my Doctoral Practicum in Counseling Psychology. The paper discusses perceptions and attainments of my practicum competencies and my professional development in Counseling Psychology. My main objective in taking part in this Doctoral Practicum in Counseling Psychology is to meet a requisite for becoming a licensed psychologist in New Jersey. Besides, as a future psychologist, the practicum gave me a chance to learn field-based knowledge through field observations and applications. I spent appropriate time of about one semester to gain appropriate experience and competencies, being capable of making connections between what I learned in Counseling Psychology and the practice in the field.
The central objective of the Doctoral Practicum in Counseling Psychology is to give the student opportunities to acquire competencies required for the conventional counseling psychology practices (Elizabeth, Donna and Justin, 1964). These include the opportunity to assess, diagnose and create interceptive measures, and, or giving recommendations. Besides, Doctoral Practicum in Counseling Psychology program enhances my professional development as it allows me to identify myself with the counseling psychology as a professional that works within the ethical principles and standards of the American Psychological Association (APA). My goal in this population was to gain the competence, prerequisite foundations that will help me come up with personalized and efficient models that can help me attend to the challenges that face sex offenders and their counseling.

Specific goals for practicum
Given that I am primarily humanistic, existential, psychoanalytic, and spiritual,
my goals were to strengthen these qualities and to facilitate the development of the following capacities:
• To gain an understanding as well as dedication to professional responsibilities as dictated by the decrees and standards of the ethical code of Counseling Psychology.
• To gain the capacity to discern normal questions of adjustment and psychopathology from a developmental, cultural and contextually competent perspective.
• To become informed of the personal differences and full range of human variability that is pertinent during counseling sessions.
• To understand an individual’s personality and cultural prejudices and the need to resolve them during professional interaction with the clients.
• To acquire skills that are relevant in clinical and interpersonal interactions, skills needed for diagnostic assessment, psychotherapy, control and consultation, and finally,
• To gain the capacity to contribute to the knowledge of Counseling Psychology involving sex offenders and other clients with mental issues.
Put more ….
My goals of the practicum were to achieve the fullest competencies that can facilitate the realization of possibilities inherent in an individual. I have learned to be educative in approach in my future practice, to advance all aspects of a client’s personality. It came to my professional attention that counseling psychology is an integral part of education, and that can help in attaining the goals of rehabilitation and education. This is justified by the fact that counseling is essential for personal growth, which is a key goal of education. Out of these experiences, I can tell future psychologists that counseling should be looked at as an integral part of learning rather being regarded as a special, psychological or social service, which is secondary to educational goals.
