The term “queer” has gained theoretical significance since the early 1990s as an alternative to the categories and forms of organizing used in earlier gay and lesbian thought and activism. Discuss the history of the term’s meanings and its political potentials for struggles around social justice (including but not limited to gender and sexuality). Please use at least two of the following authors: Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick; Judith Butler; Street Transvestites Action Revolutionaries [STAR]; Leslie Feinberg; Jose Esteban Munos; Gloria Anzaldua, writings from the Lies Journal.

You are required to engage at least two of the authors we have read in class. Please make sure you have a clearly defined introduction that states your thesis (statement of your argument), a body that develops your argument in clear logical sequence, and a conclusion (conclusion usually include a summary of your main points and outline political openings, possibilities, questions for further inquiry, relevance to local and contemporary contexts, etc—any of those). Make sure that you support every step of your argument with textual evidence by quoting directly from the text. Visual materials in support of your argument are welcome.
