• Is emotional reward the only significant factor that encourages employees to retain their jobs in the community sector?
• What is the role of psychological contract fulfilment in encouraging employee’ motivation and retention in community sector organisations?

Chosen paradigms: Interpretivist paradigm

Chosen theoretical perspective:
• Psychological contract fulfilment in relation to employees’ retention
• Expectancy theory of motivation in relation to employees’ retention

Chosen research method:
• Qualitative surveys (open-ended questions)
• Workplace obersavation

Chosen data collection method:
• Workplace observation conducted before the survey being distributed to build knowledge about the organisations’ culture and the dynamic of their employees. The knowledge will assist in
constructing the survey questions.
• Qualitative surveys to be distributed among community sector employees who have retained their employment for at least 10 years
• Qualitative surveys to be distributed among community sector employees who recently submitted their resignation and have not retain their job for at least 10 years. Survey conducted as part of
exit interview.
• Workplace observation conducted after the survey being completed to follow up details that were not captured by the surveys. The observation will emphasise on employees‘ dynamic with their
superiors and how motivated they are at their workplace.
Report instruction:
1. Outline proposed research project, including overall research questions.
2. Justify the paradigms and theoretical perspectives using scholarly literatures.
3. Describe and justify the chosen research method using scholarly literatures. Outline the advantages of the chosen research method.
4. Identify other possible qualitative research methods that could be used to answer your research questions and why they were discounted.
5. Develop a research plan/design and justify it based on scholarly literature.
6. Outline how you will go about collecting your data, including access to organisations,
participants and secondary sources of evidence.
7. Critique your data collection plan in terms of the possible risks to completion of your
research project and potential ethical issues.
8. Outline how you will analyse your data, including coding or other steps in the analysis.
9. Reflect on your understanding of the research process and the areas in which you need to develop more expertise.
