Assignment
In life there are problems, but most problems have solutions. For this assignment you are going to write an argumentative essay that identifies a problem and proposes a solution, using a proposal argument structure.

Choose a problem that effects a wide number of people. Develop your argument by explaining the problem, stating your solution, and providing strong supporting details to support your proposed solution.

Remember, however, that often when you propose a solution to a problem, your proposal will open up new problems (e.g. if you propose building a new road to relieve traffic congestion, new issues will need to be addressed such as the funding for this road, (where will this money come from); what land will be used for the road, concerns of people who live on or near this new road, etc.). Expect that your proposal will address the complex issues and problems that may come up with your proposed solution.
Getting Started

Here are some possible examples of problems:

Unavailability of parking at WCC or another location
Increasing number of people living on the street
Few safe places for teens to hang out
Rising cost of education
The obesity epidemic
Traffic congestion
Not enough computers for students or workers to use

Here are some questions to get you started:

What problem that you encounter in your community, country, or social circle do you have a possible solution for?
How feasible is your solution? Can you develop good supporting arguments that will convince a variety of people to take action and solve this issue as you propose?

As you draft, keep in mind the following:

Introduction should prove that your topic is a real problem that needs to be solved
Carefully construct your argument for your proposal, keeping in mind realistic issues and attitudes
Prove that your solution is a feasible plan

Self Evaluation

When you submit your final draft of your essay, you need to include a Self Evaluation explaining your thinking behind the writing you’re doing for this course. In this Self Evaluation you’re going to clarify for yourself and your instructor, how you’ve used the material you’re learning in this course to improve your writing.

Your 250-300 word Self Evaluation, written in beautifully proofread Standard English, needs to address the following:

What rhetorical strategies (logos, pathos, or ethos) did you use in your essay and how do you see these strategies strengthening your argument? Use specific examples from your writing when explaining how each strategy is used.
What fallacies were you able to avoid? How? Were you able to use any of the rhetorical strengths that underlie some of the fallacies, to create a stronger argument? Explain using specific examples.
How did one or more of the following help you to write your essay? How could you have better used one or more of the following techniques to improve your essay?
