1) Consider this question: Who is the most powerful person in Oscar Wilde′s Salome? Considering this question will help you interpret the play. You might entertain
several different answers as you consider the dramatic action of the play and the natures of its central characters. This consideration will help you later when you
discuss, in depth, why you chose the character the chose. Also, when you consider the question, you might ask yourself a variety of related questions. For example, why
is this question important? What type of power do these characters represent? What is power′s relationship to the major events of the play, like the death of Iokanaan
and the death of Salome and the dance of seven Veils? How does power relate to the purpose of the play? 2) Answer the question. Your answer needs to be supported by
your own interpretation of the play. You must interpret the play to arrive at your answers. Do not rely on general information about power, or your personal
convictions. Support all your claims with evidence from the play. You will try your best to make your answer persuasive. That means you are trying to get the reader to
see your point and agree with it. To do this you must argue for your choice and against the others you did not chose. 3) Use a a scholarly source to enhance your
credibility as your answer the question. You must use a scholarly source. This means a source that is credible. To find a credible source, please use sources found on
the website we discussed in class, or use a book from the coulter library. Do not substitute your own thinking with your source. In fact, it would be very beneficial
if you partially disagreed with your source. What i want to see is a nuanced understanding of your source and an indepth enagement with it. that means you will
understand the main claims of your source, discern what parts of this source pertain to your argument and use tese parts in a way to help clarify your points. If you
agree with part of your source, forward that information into your paper. If you disagree with part of your source, counter it with your own interpretation in such a
way as to clarif your point and make your point of view more credible. Remember, a good researcher can find a good source that relates to their question, but often
sources relate indirectly. that means you might not find a source that explicitly addresses our same research question. So good researchers also find interesting was
that their sources can relate to their qestion. 4)Your introduction should discuss the importance of your grab my attention and persuade me of the importance of this
research question. Your introduction should also provide the reader with your answer to the research question. You SHOULD NOT use generalities. Immediately begin your
paper with interpretations. Your body paragraphs interpret the play in ways that make your answer to the research question more persuasive. your conclusion should
summarize your paper without repeating yourself.
