Before you write an essay, please read ch.13 in Zinsser and the Great Railway Bazaar(that I upload) to get the ideas about the travel writing.

I chose Newyork instead of Montreal, so please write the essay with Newyork.
The best writing is more than mere description of what a traveler sees or does on a trip; rather, it identifies a central idea about a place and illuminates that idea through careful description of its people, landmarks, and geography. You should research the neighbourhood’s history(cite sources), but the work should not be a historical account!
