Local Public Health System Assessment (LPHSA) in Dekalb County Ga
Completing the LPHSA answers the following questions:

“What are the activities, competencies, and capacities of the local public health system?
How are the 10 Essential Public Health Services being provided to the community?” (NACCHO, 2013)
There are five steps to completing the LPHSA:

“Step One: Create a Sub-Committee
Step Two: Plan the Assessment Process
Step Three: Conduct the Assessment
Step Four: Review Results and Identify Challenges and Opportunities
Step Five: Share Results With Community” (NACCHO, 2013)
Students will complete the following steps of Phase Three, the LPHSA:

Step One: Create a Sub-Committee
Identify five positions found within the organizations identified as your MAPP Steering Committee who would make excellent members of the LPHSA sub-committee (from page 70 of the MAPP User Handbook).
Step Two: Plan the Assessment Process
Read the NPHPS Local Instrument Implementation Guide (http://www.naccho.org/programs/public-health-infrastructure/community-health-assessment). Refer to pages 18 – 19 of the Implementation Guide which reviews how to run the assessment process. Identify which of the three options would be best for your community and explain why.
Step Three: Conduct the Assessment
Read the NPHPS Assessment Implementation Guide (http://www.naccho.org/programs/public-health-infrastructure/community-health-assessment) for the instructions on how assessments are completed.
Read pages 19 – 20 of the NPHPS Local Instrument Implementation Guide and the related appendices to learn about the different methods for collecting data. Identify which option, Option 1, 2, 3 or 4, would be best for your community to complete the assessment.
Step Four: Review Results and Identify Challenges and Opportunities
Using the information learned from your previous research, identify one Essential Public Health Service that is being met in your community using evidence for support.
