Question:
Your company, a leading industrial power generator supplier has been contacted by Samsung Heavy Industries at 2330 (Perth time). One of their Drill ships operating in the Santos Basin, about 250km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro has had a major electrical failure. In order to salvage the situation, they need to fly in a backup loadbank (6250KVA) within 48 hours. The loadbank is containerized in a standard 20ft high cube shipping container (weight is 24,000kg) while the generator is containerized in a 40ft high cube container weighting 36,000kg. You check the inventory using your company’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and found that a similar loadbank is located at the regional HQ in Batam (Indonesia), while the generator is located in Jeba Ali, Dubai. The technical person who has the knowledge to set up and operate both the equipment is currently in Busan (Korea) on another project.
The customer is apparently not happy about the breakdown of the equipment, consider what you can do to help calm them down.
You have only 48 hours to have the equipment delivered to the client in the Santos Basin for installation. Describe the key challenges you would anticipate. How would you overcome these?
