and personification. My introduction of the essay is should be like: In the poem help I’ve just been run over by a bus by Gwen Hauser, one of the main theme is love with a twist. Hauser compares
‘having a relafionship° and ‘falling in love’ with ‘riding a 3-speed bicycle° and ‘being bit by a bus’ through an experience in Toronto. Houser uses simile and personification in this poem to
convey her message to readers about what the protagonist experiences and feels a sour side of love when he or she is just out of a relationship. In my opinion, love is abstract and hard to define,
however Houser uses these techniques well to express what is love for her, even this poem does not have a specific pattern or rhyme. I need 3 body paragraph about judgements of the use of simile
and personification and a conclusion. In my opinion, simile in this poem are the line 1-4 and line 33-36, and personification is line 29-32.

having a relationship
with you
is like ridng
a 3-speed bicycle
in rush hour traffic
up yonge st.—
too many people
altogether
and besides
it’s dangerous—
i got hit
by a bus 1 day
& didn’t know what hit me
till i struck the pavement
& saw this great big
bus’s body
going past me
2 inches from
my hands on the ground
what happened
a man asked
did your bike
get caught
in the grating?
no i said
grating, my foot!
a bus just hit me
what does it look like?
(realizing that i could’ve been killed
& no one would’ve
even noticed
—not even the bus—
falling in love with you
was like
being hit
by a bus—
i wasn’t killed
but I wouldn’t do it again.
