Industrialization

In the “Great American Spirit” book, how did Andrew Carnegie justify his wealth? What was to be done with his (and many of the rich) fortune? What was implied by the title “Gospel of Wealth”? How did others view his position? In “Acres of Diamonds”, what is meant by “you have no right to be poor. It is you duty to be rich”? Did / Do Americans believe in this philosophy?

Were conditions improving or getting worse during this time? How were different segments of the society treated as workers (whites/Blacks; women/men; other ethnicities; children)? Did / does government have a right to regulate?
