Presentation:
The presentation assesses your knowledge and understanding of Module Learning Outcomes 2, 3 & 4 which relate to the skills and attributes required to lead initiatives within practice, the challenges of being a leader in practice and the inherent tensions imposed by personal, professional and organisational demands on the role, and the impact of current leadership approaches in meeting organisational targets, goals and outcomes. You have 30 minutes, so we advise that you present for 20 minutes and allow 10 minutes for questions and group discussion.
The topic of the presentation is absolutely your choice but MUST have a strong leadership focus.
You may choose to critique the implementation of a recent innovation /project in the practice setting led by yourself, or one that you have been involved with as a team member, and relate the above outcomes to this, utilising current leadership theories.
You might choose to look at a current driver for your own area of practice and consider the challenges for the leader in implementing it into practice
You may concentrate on a particular leadership theory that has relevance to you or your practice setting such as facilitating team working, managing resistance, organisational culture, creating and sharing vision, or any areas of the NHS Leadership Framework that have struck you as an area for learning and development, and consider the learning outcomes above.
In other words – you can choose any area of leadership that interests/challenges you, but you must apply this to yourself and your current practice (work) context.
Report:
The second part of the assessment is a short, 2,000 word report; based upon the presentation and through which you will explore wider issues arising within your own complex team structures within your own organisation. The report assesses your knowledge and understanding of Module Learning Outcomes 1 & 5
My topic for this assignment is linked to change management by implementing bedside handover rather than traditional oral handover without patients involvement. the change led by the charge nurse in hematology unit. the teacher want a clear explanation in the presentation what is the recent practice and what is the change we need and why we need a change and how to this successfully by leadership skills and how to evaluate this is success. I did the presentation and the report twice but didn’t meet the learning outcome, the teacher told me that my writing focus in the change management rather than leadership skills and abilities. in addition, my writing was telling a story rather than analyse the leadership skills. therefore, it needs depth analysis of leadership theories and skills and linked this to the practice that happen. its more about critique the leader about its leadership skills during the change management. you can choose your ideas to create the analysis, critique and discussion.
