Final Paper. The final paper will consist of a clearly articulated research question and a thesis statement which directly answers that question. The paper should conform to the Chicago Manual of
Style (Rampolla’s handbook and Turabian’s complete guide are both available in the bookstore). The paper should consist of 10-12 pages of text (not including bibliography and appendixes) and should
contain two to four footnotes per page. Thus, if you have ten pages of text, you want a minimum of twenty footnotes total. Your footnotes will cover both direct quotes and paraphrased material—
i.e., anything that is not your own analysis or common knowledge. Please utilize at least ten sources for this paper. At least six of these sources must be bound books or scholarly journal
articles. You may use online sources, but be sure these are credible. Wikipedia is not an acceptable source. The rule of thumb for online sources is: stick with either government or university web
sites. These are more reliable and more likely to be around five years from now. Students in HI 554 should be producing 15-18 pages of text with a minimum of 15 sources, 10 of which are to be
scholarly (bound books and scholarly journals).
