Purpose: Examine case studies related to musculoskeletal and integumentary systems and burns. Answer the assigned questions. This assignment should help refine your clinical/critical thinking skills.
Assignment Description: Answer the questions in the grading criteria related to each of the patients provided. Your answer must follow APA 6th edition format. Submit the answer in the assignment area of your course. This assignment is worth 50 points.
Patient 1 -Mike was an active baseball and football player in high school. Now at the age of 36, he is still a professional athlete “wannabe.” He has dislocated his shoulder many times, but even after several hip injuries, he has never dislocated his hip.
a. Compare and contrast the anatomical physiology of the shoulder joint and the hip joint.
b. Describe what happens to each joint with injuries.
c. Predict which joint is the more likely to have a history of dislocation and explain your answer.
Patient 2 –The EMS has brought a 70 year old woman to your Emergency Department who complains of severe pain and weakness in her muscles, which started 2 weeks ago and have been getting worse. Yesterday she noticed a reddish-brown urine. Her past medical history includes CAD, hyperlipidemia, and hypertension. Her medications include beta blocker, ACE Inhibitor, simvastatin, and fenofibrate. She drinks 2 pots of coffee daily. Labs are done and reveal the following: K+ 6.0, Serum creatinine 1.6, serum creatinine kinase (CK) 6,000 units/L.
a. Provide the most likely diagnosis for this patient.
b. Support your diagnosis with the pathophysiologic alterations that occur with this condition.
c. Correlate the patient’s past medical history, medications, and the signs/symptoms presented, with your diagnosis.
