In 2017, 15 years after entering into effect, the International Criminal Court is an important and effective tool for prosecuting crimes related to conflict and preventing these from occurring in the future. Do you agree?

General Instruction:
The goal of these papers is to develop a position/argument in response to the question being asked, clearly focused on elements of international law that apply. Your position paper should demonstrate your knowledge of the issue, consider alternative positions, while making the case that the position you are taking is correct.
Position papers should have short and direct introductions and conclusions. The introduction should lay out the background as well as the key issues of contention in the question you are addressing, including the different sides of the debate and a clear statement of your position. The body of the position paper should clearly develop your argument in a logical, well organized manner using supporting evidence. You should briefly highlight counter-positions and state why these are problematic / unsatisfactory.
These position papers are very short. As a result effective writing will be an important part of your grade. Position papers should be well organized. Strong and extensive research will allow you to develop an effective understanding of the issues related to the question you are addressing and will allow you to demonstrate this to the reader. Strong research will also generate evidence that will make your position / argument convincing. Make sure that you use proper citation and bibliography styles.

Submission:
Written work should be presented in a scholarly fashion, double spaced with one inch margins using a 12pt. Times New Roman font or equivalent. Work must be submitted as both an electronic and hard copy. Late penalties will be based on the date and time of electronic submission through the correct dropbox on the course webpage in mylearning space. A hard copy, identical to the one submitted through my-learning space, must be submitted in class, the next time we meet. Please keep a copy of all papers submitted for the course.
A word count must be included on your cover page. Late penalties will apply to submissions that don’t meet the due dates students have signed-up for.
